As well as the features of the standard Motorola GP300 the 5 tone selcall unit can provide many enhanced facilities making use of the power of selective call. Some suggestions are outlined here but the greatest limitation is your imagination.

Below are some scenarios which are by no means an exhaustive list. They focus away from technical descriptions and give a flavour of how the features might be used.

ID Decode

* Scenario

Pete is on the phone, or in a meeting, or leaves his office to pick up a package from reception, or photocopy a document. He can leave his radio behind for a few minutes, secure in the knowledge that the ID of a caller will be displayed upon his return.

Call Back

* Scenario

Pete returns from the photocopier - the ID decode on his GP300 displays ID 30. Pete calls back immediately by pressing the * button. What could be simpler?

Authorisation

*Scenario

The manager of the Lyric theatre has equipped his key staff with GP300s. The majority of the time the radios operate in an all informed net - but during live performances he de-authorises all the radios to eliminate all unnecessary noise. However, the manager knows that the radio user can still contact him if an important issue arises, and he can also quickly re-authorise all the radios in an emergency.

Emergency

* Scenario

A security guard, patrolling a sweet factory, suspects that a lock has been tampered with. The guard calls the controller on his GP300 saying, "I'm going to have a closer look - I'll keep my finger on the emergency button - I will alert you if there is any trouble". Once inside the building the guard is approached by 2 unknown men in a threatening manner.

The guard discreetly hits the GP300 emergency button.

This scenario covers just one configuration of the emergency mode - the highly flexible programming options mean that this feature can be tailored to match the requirements of practically any customer.

Many radio users work in "exposed" positions - For example, remote - liable to attack, accidentally hurting themselves or in need of a quick response.

Stun / Unstun

* Scenario

Smallco Plumbing Ltd are having cash flow problems. They lease 14 GP300s from a local dealer, and the latest payment is now 3 months overdue. Written "reminders" have proved completely ineffective. The dealer finally warns the manager that he will disable the radios from I st May if the outstanding payment is not received. On 2nd May the manager arrives at the dealer's office, cash in hand.....

PTT Scan

* Scenario

Channel 3 is reserved for emergencies and consequently the users on channel 1 and 2 need to scan to ensure that they are aware of an activity on channel 3. Calls can now be initiated on the GP300 simply by a single button press - there is no need to first exit scanning mode.
