The Motorola Battery Maintenance System (BMS) is all you need to insure top performance from all your
nickel cadmium batteries. Proper battery maintenance is important for two reasons: One, knowing the
delivered capacity of a battery assures that it is capable of providing the right amount of energy for a
specific application. Two, checking a battery for faults such as shorted or reversed cells saves you servicing
time on a good radio. The six-station and three station Battery Maintenance Systems interface with many
nickel cadmium batteries via interchangeable battery adapters (available separately) for added system
customization.
Microprocessor-controlled maintenance functions include CHARGE (default activated), DISCHARGE,
ANALYZE and CONDITION. Each function is completed with a final battery charge. Upon full-charge
detection, a continuous rnaintenance charge is delivered until the battery is removed so ft is ready for use.
Each of the battery stations consists of a battery well, an LCD information center and function buttons. A
plug-in battery adapter can be installed in each battery well. The adapter analyzing system allows you to
customize a system to identify the battery adapter connected in each battery well. The LCD information
center displays battery voltage, current and maintenance status. Plus the BMS determines when there is a
battery fault and displays a BAT.Fault message. Three easy-to-use function buttons are labeled with symbols
and activate battery maintenance. The shaded lightning bolt represents charging (filling the battery) and
the unshaded lightning bolt represents discharging (emptying the battery). Discharge is complete when
the battery reaches one volt per cell. |
